Ellis Dee

The legend that is Ellis Dee needs little introduction, a staple part of the Hardcore era as a top billing DJ, and one-quarter of the seminal rave act Rhythm Section along with his groundbreaking solo releases. Roy’s (Ellis Dee) contribution to starting, shaping and pushing the scene is integral to how we know it today. On a personal level, I’ve seen Roy DJ countless times and he was one of 4 DJs (along with Slipmatt, Ratty & Randall) I followed, admired and was inspired by since I first saw him grace the decks at Elevation in 1992.

We all know the raves he played, the tunes he made, but do we know the man himself? Ellis Dee’s roots go way back, with rich and exciting stories of how he first DJ’d for someone’s wedding at 14 years old, ran his own sound system, played on Sunrise FM and started one of the early Acid House parties – and this was all before 1991. I decided to split this into 2 parts as there’s a lot to unfold with Roy’s history and I don’t want you to miss a beat.
